Resolving workplace conflict
Workplace Mediation
Workplace conflict is a massive cost to business. It absorbs management and HR time, affects performance and working relationships, and can escalate into grievances, investigations and formal processes without necessarily resolving the underlying issue.
Mediation provides a confidential and impartial way for people to address conflict directly, understand what is getting in the way and agree how they can move forward.
I am an accredited workplace mediator with CMC and IMI recognised training, alongside being a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD. Combined with my people and leadership experience, I understand both the impact on the individuals involved and the wider implications for the business.
My approach
I work independently with both parties, initially meeting them separately before bringing them together for structured mediation. My role is not to decide who is right or wrong, but to help them address the issues and establish whether they can find a workable way forward.
When mediation may help
- Working relationships have broken down
- Communication has become difficult
- Conflict is affecting performance or other people
- The same issues keep resurfacing
- Management or HR time is increasingly being absorbed
- A formal process has ended but the working relationship remains difficult
Not every situation is suitable for mediation, so an initial conversation with me can help determine whether it is appropriate. Where it is, dealing with conflict earlier can prevent considerably more time and resource being spent managing the consequences.
